Hi everyone.
Im an IMG. Here are my credentials which I am going to use this year for residency application. Kindly let me know how much chance you think I have of getting a General Surgery, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Residency (will apply in all 3, but will focus on General Surgery):
Step 1 - 223
Step 2 CS - Passed in 2nd attempt
Step 2 CK - Will give on July 25th and expect result by end of August.
Expect to become ECFMG certified before Sept 15th when application opens.
Have 4 months of USCE (clinical rotations in Surgical specialties)
Have 1 month of research experience at Harvard (Surgical lab)
Have 1 month of US Observership rotation (CV surgery)
Have 4 excellent LORs from US Surgeons
Have 2 publications (with my name in contributors sections)
Have 2 case reports submitted for publication (as first author in collaboration with US surgeons)
Am BLS and ACLS certified (by American Heart Association)
Did a Microsurgical skills training course at Emory
Have loads of volunteer work experience (including in Africa)
Member of Mensa Organization (due to IQ of 172)
Have a gap of 1 year since I graduated from medical school last year in which I only studied for USMLEs and wrote the case reports, ie no clinical practice (i am worried this might be interpreted as time spent away from medicine)
PS: I actually want to go into Plastic Surgery but as it is almost impossible for IMGs to get into it I have planned to do its residency after Gen Surgery (IF I get into Gen Surg tht is).
Thanks.
