Hello to everyone who is kind enough to read and perhaps give me a few pearls of wisdom,
I am a 37 year old Malaysian. I was an encumbered ( financial problem) Medical student of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. I decided to leave India for good and officially discontinued my course during my final year and am currently back in Malaysia. I I am also married and my partner works and resides in Malaysia. Since early this year I have been pursuing the idea of doing some other studies and during these pursues I was recently briefed on an opportunity to do MD 4 Year Program at the Philippines.
The name of the Medical School is Davao Medical School Foundation Inc. ( DMSF I ) Since I have completed the First Year in my former college I was told I can be accepted directly into the 4 year MD program pathway. The agent who offered me this opportunity is KLC Placement Services Sdn Bhd. It is a legit agency registered with our local Ministry of Higher Education and an official agent for the college also.
Essentially DMSF charges RM 90000 for this 4 Year MD path. However this school is not recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council In fact Malaysia doesn't seem to recognise any medical degrees conferred in the Philippines. I find this perplexing and politically motivated. But that is a different matter altogether.
I am still keeping this offer on my radar because I am not really desperate that I must come back to Malaysia to restart my life. I have also done some research on DMSF, however I still find that direct information regards pathways after the 4 years to be sketchy.
As most of you know most colleges in India would only confer a degree after the completion of internship which is a part of the course. In Philippines it seems to be different.
Aside this, I am very troubled by my prospects after completing MD in Philippines as foreigners are not allowed to work there either. I do understand many Indian students are studying in this college because they return to India after achieving the MD, sit for an evaluation program and then complete a one year of Internship within India after which they are absorbed into the system as any doctor graduating from India.
Now being Malaysian, there is simply no pathway to work in Malaysia since it is not recognised. So my options are to seek employment elsewhere around the world. All of us know being a medical graduate or a doctor it is not a cake walk to work in another country when it comes to field of Medicine.
I have ruled out going to USA because that is not my goal. I would really like to know what are my options to seek a job after the 4 years of MD. And I also have another confusion with regards to the countries the might or might not accept Philippines course structure as they do not include internship. I am not sure of the routes available for me. I am also aware that some entry exams and countries require a medical graduate to have experience after graduating, some require the medical graduate to have been registered with the country of origin. In the case of Philippines a foreign graduate is not even licensed to work in Philippines.
So after RM 90,000, and 4 years of sacrifice, aside having an MD degree I wont have a single license to work anywhere in the world. In India, after 4.5 years of study and 1 year of internship you awarded MBBS. You are automatically qualified to be registered as a practitioner of the state and country even if you are foreigner.
This is contrary situation or status for a foreign medical graduate after achieving MD in Philippines confounds me. I just have a degree with no means to practise. Even though i dont desire to work in Philippines, that option is not even there in case my routes elsewhere is delayed.
What I gather is that most who are selling or offering these MD 4 Years Course OR BSc (1.5 yrs) + MD ( 4Yrs )= 5.5 Yrs are being led with the idea students can write USMLE and do residency in USA. This may be of interest for those who are wanting to go there etc, but what about others?
As for DSMF, it is legit. and it is a good college. etc. I have established that much. But if anyone has more information, I will extremely grateful and any advise on my valid options after 4 year MD is appreciated.
I have to make a decision within the next few days as this is the only college I am looking at if I am weighing on continuing my broken medical career. Otherwise I am going ahead to some other course and change my career direction.
Hoping to hear from many of you.
Warmest regards,
Vadi
