Im putting these issues out there for those that are looking at SGU to consider before making a Vet School Selection --- 1. There have been major issues with things being stolen out of students bags and the school doesn't do a thing about it. It has been brought up numerous times to many different people at various levels throughout the school. It is suspected that both students and SGU employees/security/exam proctors are all involved in the stealing. I suggested having cameras in the location of the bags (since we are not allowed to take them in the exam with us) nearly 3 months ago and none have been installed. --- 2. We take exams on ExamSoft. Up until a few weeks ago, we were able to see the questions we got wrong and had a chance to learn from our mistakes. Now, we don't get to see what questions we got wrong...nothing like a perfect recipe for failure of future vets coming out of SGU. We are not allowed to go to the Prof office and discuss specific questions on the exam. We can get a print out of the areas that we are weak in...but that only tells me about broad topics. I don't see how we are able to learn from our mistakes with these ridiculous changes!!! --- 3. The classroom that Term 1 & Term 2 are in is beyond unacceptable for a professional level classroom. The desk folds up from the floor and is smaller than my laptop. I do not have room to have a book or paper notes out when I have my computer out. I have more room in an economy air plane seat than I do in my classroom that I am in for 4 hours nearly every day during the weekdays. Every time I want to get up, I have to set my laptop on the ground and fold the desk down to get out. Due to such a small space, I now have carpal tunnel symptoms in both of my wrists because I am not able to maintain an appropriate typing position to take notes. The room is frequently like a sauna. Letters and petitions have been given to administration and nothing has been done. Work requests for the room being hot are turned in frequently and the room will get cooler for a few days and then its back to being hot. There are times the room is hotter than it is outside. Many students have stopped going to class because of the horrible classroom. There are classrooms that are available that are more appropriate, but they are designated as testing facilities and used infrequently to administer exams. Also, the classroom is so poorly designed, it took 100 people nearly 3 minutes to get out of the classroom for a fire drill the other day. --- If anyone has any suggestions as to how to get administration to resolve these issues, please let me know.
