A few questions regarding AUA...
1) Would I get in with a 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.4 in science pre-reqs) and a 26 on the MCAT? I am 26 years old and have an irrelevant bachelors degree where I did not do too well because I was lazy. I refocused myself for the med school prereqs and scored A's in most of the classes. MCAT is balanced at 8, 8, 9.
2) I need loans but my credit score may be in the 600s (working on fixing right now). I do not have any familial financial support. Has anybody secured private loans from any other bank or institution outside of the services that AUA offers on their front page?
3) I am older and have already lived the tough life for 3+ years now. I am well aware that the Caribbean is now the last resort option for most people and it has become even harder for IMGs to match. I know that I will need to focus 100% from day 1 and stay free of the many temptations that exist to distract students; and therefore, my fiance has agreed to come with me for basic medical science and keep me on track. Is this going to be a problem? I know you must live in AUA housing for the first semester.
4) How are the rotations and electives? I am more concerned about these two years over the first two, because (granted I pass step 1) the clinical experiences is really what open opportunities for the future.
5) I don't think I would get into any of the Big 4 Caribbean schools, the only other options I have considered is Polish schools or SMP...but SMP is even hard/risky these days. Is there any other suggestions that anybody can give me towards pursuing the medical degree.
6) AUA advertises the monumental rotation program with FIU program, but it is hard to find any other information regarding it. How much of a plus is this? and what are the requirements and what not?
Thanks for your time!
