White Coat Ceremony suit question?

Hi guys, on the SGU website it says for dudes to bring a jacket tie and trousers to school for the white coat ceremony. However I can't say I understand why we need a suit jacket/blazer to the ceremony... Also in the pictures I see of the ceremony no one is wearing a suit jacket.

Did ya'll you guys bring a suit or just some nice button down, tie and dress pants?
