My SGU Experience So Far - Class Begins in 2 days

This post is intended to share my experiences of SGU after getting accepted and moving to the island, but before classes begin. I thought I'd give a different perspective on this forum, when you see small rewards through hard work. Hope you enjoy.

I arrived on the island after 21 hours of traveling (11 hour layover in Trinidad). From Trinidad, we walked onto the tarmac and hopped aboard a tiny prop plane. After arriving the island, tired yet enthused, I find that Caribbean Air hadn't taken my luggage aboard the plane. Their reasoning? Too much weight. Bad start. I filed a return form (as did 20 other students), and they said it'd be at the airport tomorrow morning. The customs line was really long, but since I had no luggage or clothes, and possessing the hygiene comparable to that of Shrek, I was able to jump into an express line. As SGU said, the taxis were waiting for us outside the door, they gave free taxi vouchers for first arrival SGU students. The very first impression I got of a local was, .....how kind. They were genuinely courteous and the taxi cab driver gave a great conversation. I tipped him well since the conversion rate is $1US ~ $2.6EC. The drive was only 5 minutes from the airport and I finally arrived to the True Blue campus. ...Absolutely gorgeous! The entire island is breathtaking. At this point I wasn't even bothered by my luggage, and met my roommate, we get along really well. Just as all the upper term students have been so helpful on ValueMD, they were even more helpful in person. I haven't come across one upper termer that hasn't been accommodating and genuinely, kind. It's a theme on this island I'm realizing, and I'm on board with it. I never thought I would make so many friends so fast, especially with my own incoming class! Well, I received my luggage the next morning, and ever since then it's been about settling in, getting to know my roommate, and going on these free tours that SGU offers (Grand Etang ftw). Get it all in, because now that we're only a few days away from classes. Every single person has told us to enjoy this free time as this will be our last. I appreciate the honesty guys. Up until now, I can say that time has been great and well spent, but it's onto reality again. I began flipping through biochem notes a few days ago, and now this post is the one break I have. I am ready. All of us have worked really hard to get to this point, and now we must work ten-fold harder. I thank all the upper term students for the wise words of wisdom, and feel apart of the SGU family. You all have been so wonderful and motivating. January 2015 incoming class, let's become successful together.
