Hi all,
I am just wondering about academic probation and medical school. I have really mucked up my first and second years. First year GPA was 2.2, second year 1.6.
I have a bunch of Ds and Cs but have only failed one class. Pretty shit marks, I know. I got D in organic chem 1 then retook it and got B- which I'm kinda ok about. The F was in genetics (pretty much because of the lab portion which I got 16% on). I haven't been a very responsible/mature student, also on my first day of school in second year, a very close family member of mine had passed away and it impacted me really hard for the duration of that year.
At this point I'm looking at DO schools because I'm aware of their replacement mark scheme so I'm thinking either in summer/spring I'll repeat courses I did poorly in or I'll have to take a victory lap year and just load it up with all the courses I did shitty in (that's gonna be fun, being a fifth year undergrad in the same class as freshman lol).
I'm a Canadian and pretty much have accepted the fact that I have no shot at med school in this country. Not because I've given up but because I'm fairly sure there are no replacement marks in Canada and if you have anything less than a 3.8 you're out of luck here. I think the Caribbean would be a cool place to go for med school so that is also an option. I have a friend at SGU and she says it's great location. The only problem with Carib is I don't want to be too far away from family, and I have pretty sensitive skin so I probably would sunburn bad. USMD is an option as well but a long shot I feel, though they do still factor in grade repeats.
I studied and took practice MCAT exams before the 2015 update which I scored 32,33, and 35 on.
Anyone come from a similar boat as me care to share their experiences? I know a lot of you want to shit all over me for this post and say I have zero chance at becoming a doctor and I'm a low-iq ape, go ahead, but I know that one day I'll make it.
