pre-med vs. bachelor degree
My son is a high school student in Canada. He is interested in going to a medical school most likely in Caribbean. He would do 1 year of pre-med courses then go to a MD program. Would directly going (after fulfilling pre-med requirements) to a medical school have any negatives? This will save him few years. Is there any benefit of earning a bachelors degree before or in conjunction with an MD degree? In US and Canada it is very competitive to enter a med school. As per some statistics the acceptance rate for first-time applicants in Canada is under 30% and in the U.S. it is 44%. So my point is why waste time, go directly to Caribbean school, study hard and graduate. Please advice re: positives and negatives of pre-med vs. bachelor degree and US/Canada Med Schools vs. Caribbean Med Schools, and doing pre-med courses in Canada/US vs. doing pre-med courses in Caribbean. Thanks!

Stay away from bay front apt. Right across sgu campus
I STAYED AT BAY FRONT APT. THE TERRIBLE LANDLORD IS A *$*@**@. The apt i lived in literally was falling apart. I continously had someone fixing something. I finally got tired of it when my entire apt flooded , with flowing water coming out the door and all my personal belongings getting ruined. what did he do? He threatened to keep my deposit if i tried to stir up any trouble and said what are you going to do about it. I have talked to SGU to get them off the list of recommended apts. literally the worst experience ever.

Debrecen University, any advise?
I am starting the Debrecen Med School (1st year) next academic year. I am coming from Canada where Medicine Study is highly competitive and the chances to get a registration are minim. It would be great if someone who is studying there could give me practical advises before landing.

Where you can get a PD kit (patient examination kit)
Depending on how much time you have before your semester starts there are a few places you can get all the contents within a physical diagnostic kit. (typically your otoscope, stethoscope, bp set, tuning forks, etc) . Depending on how much you want to spend you can spend anywhere from $250-$900. The obvious places to look, Ebay.com and Amazon.com You can see if you can put a kit together. These days, a quick google search will help you determine a good price point. My suggestion for Caribbean medical students is not to over spend on Welch-Allyn brands. They're top notch, no doubt, but not what you need. You will typically use them in your ICM, lab, CCSB while your on the island.
Theres a few other places that aren't too bad in buying a kit. medmogul.com has some kits available too. Made for Ross or SGU, but the contents seem to be typical for most carribean/american medical schools.
Stethoscopes: This is where i suggest many spend a little bit of money. Don't waste your money on anything other than 3M Littmann. The two best for medical students are Cardiology III and Classic II SE. Classic II SE is better for students to learn on. The cardiology III is good for those with more experience. Littman in my opinion is good for distinguishing low level murmurs vs any other brand out there. I've heard there are some other brands that are just as good , but speaking from someone that has used Littmanns vs $15 stethoscopes, I definitely think once you go Littmann you don't go back.

Review questions
Hello,
If you are studying for the Canadian board exams or just want good set of questions to test yourself with (with answers), please msg or email me. I have over 3000+ high yield questions compiled into a program which is easy to download and use on either mac or PC (need winRAR). These questions are typically step 2 questions in Medicine, Ob, paeds, surgery, community health, psychiatry. I suggest completing all of them before starting clinicals to give you that edge during your rotations. No need to buy subscriptions or have time limits on question banks. Also 10 case file books that will help you pass all exams and all board exams.
