Prospective students, some advice
Hey all, I'm a student at SJSM who finished on the island a few months ago. When I was applying to carribbean schools, I spent a lot of time on this forum trying to read what students were saying. A lot of it is honest, but be wary of certain users...for instance, there are users from the student government who come on here to post and defend anything negative that's said about the school. Keep in mind, it is their job to make the school look favorable. For instance, drnicolefox has a blog, and she is on the student government. It's in their job description.
The truth is that SJSM will give you a decent education (as I have stated before). The experience in Anguilla is unfortunately pretty unpleasant due to school politics, a ton of drama and hurtful things that go on constantly within the classes. If I could give any advice...there are other off-shore schools out there which will give you a fine education and have a much more pleasant student environment. Just my opinion I guess.
Best of luck to everyone :)

Cardiovascular/Respiratory Scenario Questions: need help
Questions 1-4 concern the following scenario:
Scenario 1: Patient is suffering from a hemolytic anemia (i.e., red blood cells are being removed from the circulation by the spleen, liver and other organs). Her blood concentration of hemoglobin is roughly 2/3 of that in most normal folks. If nothing else changes (ventilation, cardiac output, metabolic rate), what will be the effect of the anemia on ______ (compared to before the anemia).
1) PO2 at the alveoli:
a) increased by 10 mmHg, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 10 mmHg
2) [O2] at the left atrium:
a) increased by 20 %, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 5-10%, d) decreased by 30-50%
3) PO2 at the right ventricle (mixed venous PO2):
a) increased by 10 mmHg, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 10 mmHg
4) Oxygen delivery to the systemic tissues
a) decreased by 2/3
b) decreased by 10-20%
c) largely unchanged
d) increased by 20%
e) increased by 2/3
Questions 5-8 concern the following elaboration on Scenario 1:
Scenario 2: If patient's tidal volume increases by 50%, but respiratory rate and cardiac output are
not changed, what effect will that have on _______ (compared to just before the increase
in tidal volume)
5) PO2 at the alveoli:
a) increased by 10 mmHg, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 10 mmHg
6) [O2] at the left atrium:
a) increased by 20 %, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 5-10%, d) decreased by 30-50%
7) PO2 at the right ventricle (mixed venous PO2):
a) increased by 10 mmHg, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 10 mmHg
8) Oxygen delivery to the systemic tissues
a) decreased by 2/3
b) decreased by 10-20%
c) largely unchanged
d) increased by 20-40%
e) increased by 100%
Questions 9-12 concern the following elaboration on Scenario 2:
Scenario 3: If, instead, patient's cardiac output and tidal volume both increase by 50% (but
respiratory rate remains unaltered, what effect would that have on _______ (compared to
just before the increase in cardiac output and tidal volume)
9) PO2 at the alveoli:
a) increased by 10 mmHg, b) largely unchanged, c) decreased by 10 mmHg

UNIBE Jan 2015
I wanted to get in touch with other people that are also starting UNIBE Medical School in January 2015. Please, It would be great if we can form a group and together we can help each other out. Also, if you are in the process of applying or thinking about it, I could provide you with information. I did my application and unlike anything I have read here, mine was a very smooth one. My girlfriend also decided to apply and she also had the same experience. Again, if you have any doubts or concerns of the process I will be more than happy to guide you. I cannot say anything about classes or the school, yet because I have not started.
Thank you !
Thank you !

what to do after graduation in china
Hi
I'm sure everyone is aware that registering as a doctor in canada, australia, nz etc is almost impossible
and usa is really hard
so my question is what is the benefit of getting a degree in china
I understand to practice in china, you have to pass the chinese medical licence exam
and this exam is in chinese language
So do foreigners have a chance of passing this?
I'm afraid after graudation from china will just end up in being lost in sea situation

med school in hungary esp Debrecen and Semmelweis
Hi I have some questions please
1. I did a premed course before (biology, physics, chemistry, maths) but haven't finished the degree
do I really have to sit the entrance exam? (honestly the entrance exam samples on s@tudy hung@ry website seemed quite easy)
2. where on earth are the entrance exams held?
Do I have to go to Hungary to sit the exam
3. Do Hungary med schools accept transfers for foreign med schools? (I got accepted to a med school from 2015 but its in the 3rd world so I'm afraid they may think nothing of it)
Thanks

Looking for the right path for my future.
Hello,
I'm a senior student in the U.S.A. I'm a citizen in both countries D.R. and U.S.A. I want to become a neurosurgeon but I'm really confused with all the process that I must follow in order to reach my goal. I don't know how medical school works here in the states, could someone explain me? What about if I want to do my bachelor's degree in D.R. Is it recommendable? What would be all the obstacles that may happen throughout my international studies if I decide to go to D.R. and then come back to the states?
