I interviewed for SGU more than two weeks ago and have not heard anything since. Should I contact my admission's counselor or is it still normal for them to take this long? I remember my interviewer telling me that it should take within the week to hear back.

Anaesthetic vs analgesic

Hi guys, studying for pharmacology, I can't understand something:

If halothane is causing a fast anaesthesia- lack of consciousness and pain, why do we need to supplement it with analgesics, or anti emetics, or what ever.

in other words: if you depress the CNS of the person, why does he still feel pain, vomit and such?

Neurosurgery speciality validated in Switzerland?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and after doing some research I decided to make my first post.
I apologize in advance if it isn't in the right forum.

I'm a medical student in Uruguay (South America) with an EU-citizenship (Italian from my grandma's side), and I wanted to know if its possible to get a medical speciality such as neurosurgery validated in Switzerland.
My plan is to become a neurosurgeon here (much more likely than doing so in Switzerland), and then move there and get my medical degree and speciality certified to work.

From what I've read here, language is pretty important, so I started taking german lessons.

So to summarize: - Non-EU medical degree, and speciality
-EU-Citizenship

Can you help me with important information?
Thank you.

International Medical Graduate applying for F1/F2 in UK

Hi,
As you may have noticed I'm trying to decide where to continue my medical training after I graduate from med school in Uruguay.
As for now, I am considering Switzerland and the UK.
I have EU citizenship, but my degree is from a non-EU country.
I checked with the GMC and they actually find my medical school acceptable and are able to certificate my medical degree. After that, I'm required to take an english exam, and the PLAB (part1 and 2).
What should I do then?
Is it difficult for a foreigner to get into a Foundation 1 or 2 position in the UK?

Hey guys and gals,
I matched at Wyckoff Heights in Brooklyn and I'm looking to relocate there with ma wayfe (my wife) and I'm looking a decent apartment in bushwick or within a 15-20 min commute. My budget is 1500 a month and of course I want hot water and lots of sunshine since that seems to be the selling point on most listing's I've looked at. Not looking to share with anyone. Would prefer a post-war building but would settle for pre-war renovated building. If you know of anyone leaving the area or has a place to rent out, please point them my way via email: mr ismail 86 at g mail dot com.
Thanks in advance!

Absolute Shot at Carib with Unfinished Undergrad Degree + High MCAT. Want to Go Now

$

As a Canadian student in their 3rd year of undergrad with an absolutely abysmal GPA (we're talking borderline 2.0). Some A's in first year and in last half of 3rd year. With a MCAT score in the 95th percentile is there any chance at carib if I apply to literally every single MD med school in Latin America without finishing my undergrad degree? Half-decent ECs (worked with disabled children for a year and involvement in the Olympic games).

That has to be close to 100 carib schools if not more. With those stats my question is; Will I be accepted and start medical school by 2017 in any school in the caribbean. I don't care if I'll have a half-assed or even quarter-assed chance at getting any chance at a residency spot offer in the US.

Also, I have no interest in attending med school in Canada, US, DO. That would require AT LEAST 3 more years of correcting my poor undergrad performance and add more debt to my shoulders. My question pertains to getting in as soon as possible.

My review of Ea gle Us mle Prep
I recently completed my prep at Eagle and would like to show a review since I couldn’t find any good reviews before deciding to come here. I will do my best to be objective to allow you make your opinion about the program. In the past I have done Kaplan in Miami for Step 1 so I have experience with another review program.

Living situation

  • The apartment I received was okay, my room and bathroom were dirty but the kitchen was semi clean. The living room was clean.
  • Each bedroom comes with bedding, chair, table, and a lamp.
  • The apartment comes with adequate cooking equipment
  • A 100$ cleaning fee, but it was still dirty and the main secretary tells you on arrival

The Program

  • Within a my session, I met with Dr. N, the academic director, a total of 2 times totaling around 10 minutes. The meetings are very unprofessional as well secretaries keep barging in. The main secretary also badmouths the students to the Dr. N.
  • The tutors are the key to the program and are why people use Eagle, not the Dr. N. But there are also tutors that will try to just befriend you to find out information about other students and badmouth other tutors. Watch out for the main tutor.
  • There are daily one-hour drills for Step 1, 2, and Pharmacology. The drills are ok to solidify connections and test for your weaknesses, but its also a place for the tutors to show off.
  • Eagle only pays for your first computer NBME exam and you must pay for all other NBMES so be prepared to spend an extra $. I was told on the phone that Eagle pays for this but it was a lie.
  • Half the lectures were useful many of the lectures are geared for step 1 students and have a lot of unnecessary information. step1, 2, 3 all sit together in class.
  • Dr. N, the academic director, spent so little time with the students, it was hard for me to trust her advice in any decision. She readily recommended me to see a psychiatrist, to get meds, she does this for many students. When I mean meds: adderall, benzos, b-blockers, she will not say these names directly but she most definitely hints at them.
  • Another problem is some of the tutors like to divulge the personal and academic problems of other students, this creates a very troublesome environment, for someone who is trying to pass her test. During my tutoring I was told not to listen to other students and other tutors because they were simply "stupid." I was recommended to come here by my Dean, but I am telling her to stop sending students here.

Hello,

Like many, I have a horribly low undergraduate GPA. My major was in biology and I graduated last year and have been working as an entry level scientist for a big pharma company. My passion is medicine and I know that with grades as bad as mine, getting into a US MD or even a US DO school is going to be really tough.

I'm 25 years old and I am debating if I should take some more time, do a special masters program and apply to US MD and DO schools to start med school when I'm around 27 or 28, or if I should apply to SGU and start med school earlier to save me time?

The thing is that I love orthopedics, specifically sports medicine, and I know that going to SGU is going to make that impossible. However, I am also open to the possibility of falling in love with another specialty as I get more exposure to it and therefore going to SGU would be less of a barrier in that case.

So my question is: Is it worth taking extra time to do a post bac or SMP and apply to US MD or DO schools or should I just hedge my bets on going to SGU and doing really well?

In terms of residency, I know that going to SGU will make ortho impossible, but what about other fields and residency possibilities?

Thank you!

Anyone heard of this company? They don't charge anything and will try to get me a residency? If they get me one and I accept, it's pretty
expensive to the tune of six figures.

Seems like a no lose scenario at this point.
