Hello all,
A little about me: I am a very non-traditional premed student, graduated in 05 with a double major in "Computer Network Administration", and "Computer Investigations and Criminal Justice", employed as a network engineer, went back to college for prerequisites into med school (mostly community college), went back to alma mater for biochemistry, now wrapping up A&P. I graduated with a 3.86, however my MCAT is only a 22. With working a professional career it was tough to switch gears to study for the MCAT after working a 10 hour day.
Enough about me, my apologies, I was accepted into Ross for January 13, however, I have deferred until May 13 so I can sell my house and get everything straightened out. I am looking to hear from anyone who is attending Ross or has Attended to gather any useful information. Mostly I'd like to discuss more about all of the horror stories I hear. I am not trying to be a muck raker, I'd just like to hear other people's experiences. What helped, what should I avoid, all of that good stuff.
I'd like to know if and how anyone shipped anything electronic to the island? I have several devices, computer related, I'd like to have on the island with me, however, I'd rather not have customs charge me an arm and a leg (no pun intended).
I have also spoken with someone who stated Ross will fail people out if there are not enough clinical spots. Please, again I am not here to talk trash, I'd just like to know if anyone else had heard of this practice? I do hear a lot about the failures, but I cannot help but to think could that be the individual? Now I do not believe med school to be easy, but I do ask how hard can it be other than hard work and diligence? Also, just curious, are there any Ross grads who were and are currently not able to get into a residency? My main reason for these questions is because I basically am giving up everything I have worked to achieve, and I want to be sure if something does go horribly wrong it is only my fault. Please do pardon if a lot of this seems quite egocentric.
Last, I'd like to ask about study materials and tests (I am not trying to cheat). I have heard the instructors test a lot off of their power point presentations. I heard one person advise to not purchase any books, study only the power points, and study the USMLE First Aid as a filler? Myself I find this a little hard to believe, but I'd like to know other people's experiences if possible.
